PRIVACY POLICY

We, the German Marine Research Alliance e.V. (hereinafter "Meere Online", "we" or "us"), are pleased that you are visiting our website. We value the protection of your privacy and personal data when using our website. In the following, we provide information about processing personal data when you use our website.

1. Person responsible for data processing

2. Processing of your data, purposes, legal basis for processing and storage period

When you visit our website and in the event of further interaction with us via our website, by e-mail or contact form, we process your personal data as described below:

a) Data collected automatically when visiting the website

When you visit our website, the browser on your device automatically processes the following data:

  • Meta/communication data (e.g. device information, IP address of your end device, name and URL of the retrieved file, access status/HTTP status code, the browser of your end device)

We collect and use this information to enable you to establish a smooth connection to our website and for the purposes of (network) security and stability.

The legal basis for the processing is Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR. Our legitimate interest follows from the purposes above. Under no circumstances will this data be used to conclude your person. This data is not stored together with other personal data

Your data will be deleted from the server after 365 days and from the data backup after 36 months.

b) Contact by e-mail

If you have any questions or comments about our offer, please contact us by e-mail. In this case, we process the following data about you:

  • Title, first name and surname, company/institution if applicable, your e-mail address and the content of your e-mail

The data you provide will be processed exclusively for the purpose of dealing with your enquiry. The legal basis for this is your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. a GDPR), which you express by contacting us, as well as in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. b or lit. f GDPR. The personal data collected will be deleted immediately after your enquiry has been dealt with, unless it is required for other purposes. Consent can be revoked at any time with effect for the future.
 

c) Cookies

We use cookies on our websites. Cookies are small text files that are assigned to the browser you are using and stored on your hard drive by means of a characteristic string of characters. With the help of cookies, certain information flows to the person who sets the cookie. In addition to technically necessary cookies, we also use statistical, marketing and personalisation cookies. These cookies store usage data (e.g. websites visited, interest in content, access times). This is done for the following purposes:

  • Visit action evaluation
  • Conversion measurement (measurement of the effectiveness of marketing measures)
  • Profiling (creation of user profiles)
  • Reach measurement (e.g. access statistics, recognition of returning visitors)
  • Tracking (e.g. interest/behavioural profiling, use of cookies)

The legal basis for technically necessary cookies to make our website available to you is Section 25 (2) No. 2 TTDSG. Any use of cookies that is not technically necessary for this purpose constitutes data processing only permitted with express consent by Section 25 (1) TTDSG in conjunction with Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 lit. a GDPR. This applies in particular to the use of statistics, marketing and personalisation cookies. You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future by adjusting the cookie settings. In addition, we will only pass on your personal data processed by cookies to third parties if you have given your express consent in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. a GDPR.

d) Web analysis tools

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service, on our website. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Dublin, Ireland (hereinafter "Google Analytics"). We have concluded a corresponding order processing agreement with Google Analytics following Art. 28 GDPR. 

Suppose you agreed to the analysis cookies' setting via our cookie banner. In that case, Google Analytics uses cross-session cookies stored on your end device to enable your use of our website to be analysed. The information generated by the analytics cookies includes

  • your IP address, the number of visits to specific subpages of our website, the time spent on individual pages, the pages from which you left our website, data on the location of your access (e.g. city or country) and information on the conversion rate of subpages, etc. 

The data collected is stored on Google Analytics servers in the USA ( https://analytics.google.com/ ). 

You can reject the settings for analytics cookies and revoke your consent at any time (see the section "Cookies", point c). 

The processing of the data we collected through the analysis cookies is based on your consent following Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. a GDPR and § 25 para. 1 TDDDG.

e) Social media plug-ins

We do not use any social media plug-ins on our website. If our websites contain symbols from social media providers (e.g. from Facebook, "X", YouTube), we only use these to link to the pages of the respective providers passively.

f) AI tool to improve the website experience

We use an AI tool to show you optimal results for your search field entries and personalise content for you. For this purpose, we also access the data collected by Google Analytics (see section d). 

Your data is processed based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. a GDPR) and our legitimate interest in further improving the website experience (Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR).

3. No legal or contractual obligation to provide your data

You are not subject to any legal or contractual obligation to provide your data when using our website. However, you may not be able to make full use of the website and we may not be able to process your enquiries if you do not provide the necessary data.

4. Recipients of your data

Es kann unter Umständen erforderlich sein, dass wir Ihre personenbezogenen Daten gegenüber Dritten offenlegen. In Betracht kommen dabei folgende Kategorien von Empfängern:

  • IT service providers (in particular, hosting service providers for the provision of this website, web analysis service providers, and service providers who maintain our IT systems).
  • Other service providers who support us in connection with our offer (e.g. advertising agencies, shipping service providers);
  • Authorities, courts and other public bodies.

We will only disclose your personal data to third parties if and insofar as this is necessary and legally permissible or if there is a corresponding legal or statutory obligation to do so.

5. Third-country transfer

We do not transfer your data to recipients outside the European Union or the European Economic Area, except for processing operations for which we provide information about the possibility of transferring data to recipients outside the EU in this Privacy Policy. As a rule, data is transferred on the basis of the EU Commission's so-called standard contractual clauses or a corresponding adequacy decision.

6. No automated decision-making/profiling

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling (an automated analysis of your personal circumstances).

7. Rights to information and other rights

You are entitled to request information about the personal data stored about you at any time (Art. 15 GDPR). Furthermore, you have the right to demand that incorrect data about you be corrected or incomplete data be completed (Art. 16 GDPR).

If the legal requirements are met, you also have the right to request the erasure or restriction of the processing (blocking) of personal data (Art. 17 and 18 GDPR). Following Art. 20 GDPR, you also have the right to receive your personal data that you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format or to request that it be transferred to another controller.

You can also object to data processing if the Art. 21 GDPR requirements are met. Furthermore, following Art. 7 (3) GDPR, you can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.

To exercise your rights, you can contact kontakt@allianz-meeresforschung.de in writing, by fax, or by e-mail. We would like to point out at this point that we will process your personal data in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR to process an application and for identification purposes.

8. Right to complain with the supervisory authority

Following Art. 77 GDPR, you also have the right to complain with the competent data protection supervisory authority if you are of the opinion that the processing of your personal data is not lawful:
