Who makes Meere Online?
The German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) brings together 25 university and non-university institutions that conduct marine research. Together with its member institutions, the DAM develops solution-orientated knowledge and communicates options for action in politics, business and civil society - as a basis for the necessary change towards greater sustainability in dealing with the coasts, seas and oceans.
What does Meere Online offer?
The information portal networks and bundles the expertise of German marine research, offering comprehensible specialist knowledge for all interested parties and serving as a basis for decision-making in politics, administration, business, and civil society.
The focus is on the sustainable use of coasts, seas, and oceans. Knowledge is the basis for sustainable action—to better protect the seas and use them more sustainably.
The semantic search function, which enables searches based on text similarities in combination with a keyword search, was developed on Meere Online in cooperation with the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).
In cooperation with the Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw), current press releases from German marine research are gathered and made available on Meere Online.
Meere Online is recognized as an official project of the UN-Ozeandekade, which aims for a sustainable future in ocean stewardship. The initiative seeks to develop transformative solutions across disciplines and nations to promote both the protection and sustainable use of the ocean.
Meere Online is an official contribution to the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters." This initiative aims to protect and restore the health of our oceans and waters by 2030 through research and innovation, civic engagement, and the promotion of a sustainable, climate-neutral, and circular blue economy.
